June 20, 2007 Attention Diamond Industry: Unfortunately our industry sometimes has to deal with unethical individuals who take advantage of the bond and trust that is the backbone of our industry. Many of us have been victims of fraud over the years, the most recent example being the currently developing situation with Avi Taub of A. Taub Diamond Corporation. I became personally involved as of Wednesday of last week (June 13, 2007,) and I have since become aware of over sixty five companies that have been affected from as little as several thousand dollars to as high as half a million dollars.
This fraudulent act has the potential to destroy our trust based business relationships and permanently change the way the diamond industry operates. We must form a stronger more unified group that does not tolerate such fraudulent and criminal activities.
As president of the Diamond Bourse of S.E. United States, I urge all of you to join me in protecting our interests.
Effective immediately, we must use all available resources to achieve a resolution and to take immediate action against Avi Taub. Any individuals that have information regarding Avi Taub, his whereabouts or possible reasons for his behavior, must come forward. We also need information regarding the location of the diamonds and who holds them. We will protect all sources and keep their identities anonymous.
Information Needed:
# Home address and telephone numbers in New York, Israel, Florida and any other known addresses.
# Aliases or nicknames
# Full name, phone numbers and addresses of parents and siblings
# Full name, phone numbers and addresses of spouse and/or girlfriends, Rabbi’s names and temple affiliations
# Close friends or anyone who has had a relationship with Avi Taub
# Safety deposit boxes
# Vehicles
# Driver’s license information
# Passport
# Birth certificate
# Social Security Number
# Citizenships
# Favorite hangouts (restaurants, nightclubs, bars, etc.)
We are notifying and will be utilizing the resources of the following agencies to put an end to this situation: Department of Homeland Security, TSA, FBI, DEA, Customs and International Agencies such as Interpol and other international agencies.
A list of the stones acquired by Avi Taub will be made public. Anyone found assisting in the buying, selling or re-cutting of these stones worldwide will face criminal prosecution.
