The jewelry and metalsmithing program offers an examination of the relationships between material and form in the creation of jewelry and hollowware. The student is introduced to the techniques, tools, materials and design principles necessary for a thorough exposure to the contemporary metalworking craft. A fully equipped metalcrafts studio is provided for the student to become familiar with the various methods of processing. These include fabricating techniques, metal forming, casting, vulcanizing and duplicating, stone setting and settings, enameling methods, chasing, hollowware and flatware forming, and metal finishing. A complete lapidary unit is available for sawing, sanding, grinding, and polishing gemstones.
